Winters Light in Oils
Winter’s Light in Oils
Glowing lanterns, frosty mornings, moonlit trees and the welcoming light of a distant cottage—winter offers so much inspiration for painting.
Join me at The Art Cabin for six relaxed mornings exploring the colours and atmosphere of winter in oils. Each week, we’ll paint a different subject, discovering how light can transform a scene and bring warmth, depth and mood to our paintings.
We’ll explore colour mixing, blending, soft edges and the contrast between warm light and cool shadows, with demonstrations and guidance throughout. There’s time to develop your painting, ask questions and enjoy the process in a small, friendly group.
When: Fridays, 10.30am–1.30pm, from 6 November to 18 December 2026.
Please note: There is no class on Friday 27 November.
Price: £255 per person for six sessions, including all painting materials.
Where: The Art Cabin, Hut 2, Craft Village, Coolings Garden Centre, Rushmore Hill, Knockholt, Kent, TN14 7NN. You’ll find us behind Arthurs Café, with free parking on site.
Our weekly painting themes are:
6 November — Lantern Glow A simple lantern still life, exploring the warmth of candlelight against a cool, dark background.
13 November — Pale Winter Sun A low winter sun across a misty or frosty landscape, focusing on soft edges, gentle colour changes and subtle light.
20 November — Winter City Lights A simplified cityscape at dusk, with glowing windows and colourful reflections on wet streets.
4 December — Moonlight Through the Trees A winter night scene using deep blues, violets and softly illuminated branches.
11 December — Reflections on Winter Water An atmospheric lake or river scene, exploring winter light reflected across the water—or perhaps the mood and movement of a dramatic winter storm.
18 December — A Light in the Landscape A final winter landscape featuring the welcoming glow of a cottage or distant building, bringing together the ideas we’ve explored throughout the course.
All painting materials are included, so simply bring an apron and come ready to paint.
We don’t provide refreshments, but you’re very welcome to bring your own drink or pick one up from Arthurs Café before the session and bring it with you.
If you have any questions, please contact Sara at sara@theartcabin.org or 07540 688720.
I look forward to sharing some winter painting mornings with you!
