Step into the gentle beauty of early summer with this Vintage Summer Mixed Media Wisteria workshop — a calming and inspiring morning of painting, layering, and creative exploration.
Inspired by the soft, cascading blooms of wisteria, this workshop will guide you through creating a delicate, painterly artwork using watercolour and acrylic mixed media techniques. Together we’ll explore loose washes, layered colour, and expressive mark-making to capture the dreamy feel of wisteria flowers hanging from sun-warmed branches.
 
This class is perfect for those who already have a little experience with watercolour and would like to expand their skills by introducing subtle acrylic layering and mixed media techniques. You’ll learn how to build soft colour transitions, create depth and movement in florals, and bring a vintage, painterly feel to your work.
 
By the end of the session you’ll have created a beautiful finished wisteria artwork, full of soft summer colour and atmospheric texture — perfect to frame and enjoy at home.

The Art Cabin is nestled within the beautiful surroundings of Coolings Garden Centre — the perfect creative escape surrounded by plants and gardens.
 
🎨 What We’ll Explore
During the workshop you will learn:
• How to paint loose, flowing wisteria blossoms in watercolour
• Creating depth using soft layers of acrylic and mixed media textures
• Techniques for achieving a light, airy vintage style
• Ways to suggest florals with expressive marks rather than tight detail
• How to balance colour, softness and composition in floral painting

All materials are provided, including:
• Watercolour paints
• Acrylic paints
• Brushes and tools
• Watercolour paper A3 size
• Mixed media materials for layering and texture
 
You’re very welcome to bring along any favourite brushes if you wish, but everything you need will be ready for you.

Refreshments are not provided in the Art Cabin, but you are very welcome to bring your own tea, coffee, or drink with you.
There is also a lovely café and artisan bakery onsite at Coolings, perfect for a visit before or after the workshop.
