Discover the joy and freedom of impressionistic painting in this immersive 6-week course held at The Art Cabin, Coolings Garden Centre. Each week you will create a new landscape, seascape, or cloudscape — gradually building confidence as the subjects become more expressive and more challenging.
 
You’ll work with acrylics as an underpainting and finish alla prima in oils, learning how to build colour harmony, loosen your brushwork, and capture atmosphere with confidence.
This course is suitable for beginners with some experience and intermediate painters looking to loosen their style.

Course Structure
Each week focuses on a new impressionistic subject:
Soft cloudscape study – light, colour & loose blending
Gentle rolling landscape – creating depth & atmosphere
Dramatic skies – expressive brushwork & contrast
Coastal shoreline – capturing movement and edges
Atmospheric seascape – waves, reflections & energy
Final expressive landscape/seascape – personal style focus
 
You’ll use acrylics to block in shapes and values, then switch to oils to complete the painting, exploring rich textures and intuitive mark-making.
