Paint it Like Matisse - Olive Trees
Olive Trees Painting Workshop – Inspired by Henri Matisse
Immerse yourself in the bold, expressive world of Henri Matisse in this guided painting workshop inspired by his vibrant Olive Trees.
Matisse painted this work in Collioure, in the south of France, a place that became a creative hub for many of the key figures of early 20th-century art. He was widely regarded as the leader of the “Wild Beasts” – Les Fauves.
Renowned for his vibrant compositions and bold, expressive colour, Matisse worked in a non-naturalistic style, using simplified forms and dynamic brushwork to create paintings of powerful emotional and abstract impact.
In this session, we will recreate the work using acrylic paints, capturing the energy, colour, and expressive freedom that define Matisse’s iconic style.
During this session, students will be guided step by step in creating their own artwork inspired by Matisse’s approach to painting. You’ll explore expressive colour choices, dynamic mark-making, and how to simplify shapes while still capturing movement and atmosphere. The class is suitable for all levels, from beginners to more experienced painters looking to loosen up their style.
The workshop is taught by our very talented Melanie Anne Juliette, who will share techniques, tips, and encouragement throughout the session in a relaxed and supportive environment.
