Paint it Like Vlaminck - Street Scene
Paint It Like Vlaminck – Street Scene Workshop
Date & Time: Wednesday 18th March, 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Location: The Art Cabin, Craft Village, Coolings Garden Centre, Rushmore Hill, Knockholt, Kent, TN14 7NN
Tutor: Melanie Ann Juliette
Discover the bold, expressive world of French painter Maurice de Vlaminck in this vibrant and dynamic art workshop inspired by his painting Street Scene.
Vlaminck was part of the Fauvist movement – known as “Les Fauves” (The Wild Beasts) – a group of French painters celebrated for their intense, non-naturalistic colours, simple forms, and powerful, energetic brushstrokes. His work is impulsive, emotionally driven, and full of light, movement, and raw expression.
In this session, you’ll explore Vlaminck’s style, background, and artistic approach before creating your own interpretation of Street Scene. Working in oil pastels, you’ll experiment with bold colour, strong shapes, and expressive mark-making. The process is great fun and highly freeing, resulting in a dynamic, energetic piece of art that truly captures the spirit of the Fauves.
You’ll be guided step by step by Melanie Ann Juliette, with time to play with materials and techniques before developing your final artwork. This session is suitable for all abilities – no prior experience needed.
